This project began with an image and a desire. The image was of a dome in Jerusalem, taken in black and white while standing directly under the architectural wonder. The desire was to use this dome as a shared symbol of worship, bridging faith through geometry, design and what lies beyond.
I began collecting photographs of domes from churches and mosques in the region between Jordan and Palestine. Eventually, I began weaving and merging the domes together looking for some underlying unity. However, my desire for perfect unity wasn’t fulfilled, and soon I came to the conclusion that maybe they just didn’t fit together. Instead of forcing the images into one, I began splitting the images apart into their basic structural components, until the original form began to vanish and all that was left was the light which discretely hid underneath.
